Every year our vines at Lawrence and Gamache Vineyards produce grapes of incredible quality as well as unique characteristics reflecting the aspects of the sites. Lawrence Vineyards, on the newly approved Royal Slope AVA, is a higher elevation site that produces bright, fruit forward wines. Gamache is at a lower elevation, and produces deep, dark, and dense fruit with a bold body and character. This is one of our favorite wines to demonstrate our blending style of melding warm and cool climates to create wines of great balance.
The 2018 release is 100% Malbec with 57% from the cooler Lawrence Vineyard, and 43% from the warmer Gamache Vineyard. We aged the Malbec in about 33% new French oak for 18 months.
This wine opens with fruit aromatics of blackberry and boysenberry and backed up by notes of crushed red pepper, licorice and earthy minerality. Our Malbec boasts a palette coating body and balanced tannic structure that will pair wonderfully with a juicy bacon bleu cheeseburger, grilled meats, or portabella mushroom.
